This Week in Entrepreneurship

4 Dec

Getting busy yet? Only a few short weeks of school remain before the holidays, so there’s no sense in slowing down now. There are some exciting events this week both on and off campus, starting with New Tech Boulder tonight.

On Campus …

GEA Lunch & Learn: Ted Kennedy (Not that One), Former VP of Ironman

When: Thursday, December 6th | 12:30 PM

Where: The Dean’s Suite Board Room

Mr. Kennedy, entrepreneur and former VP of one of the most successful branding jobs in sports at Ironman, will be hosting. The Outdoor Industries Club is co-sponsoring this one, and unfortunately space is limited to 20. Don’t miss it!

Owen Hammond (Leeds ’13) finished the Ironman in Hawaii last year. I imagine he’ll be at lunch, if he can get there fast enough. Kind of looks like he’s walking in this photo — somebody tell that guy to pick it up.

New Tech Boulder

When: Tuesday, December 4 | 6 pm

Where: Wittemyer Courtroom, Wolf Law | CU Boulder Campus

Brad Feld will be hosting as startups demo their products and field questions.

RSVP and more info:

Crash Course: Data Security & Privacy

When: Wednesday, December 5th | 6:15 pm

Where: Wolf Law, Room 301 | CU Boulder Campus

Jason Haislmaier, partner at Bryan Cave, will be speaking.

GEA Retreat Videos Posted and StartupCU in CU News

1 Dec

Two things I think many of you will be interested in . . .

GEA Retreat Videos

For the first time, we recorded the speeches and panels at the GEA Retreat. I posted links to the videos on the retreat blog post. Look for a “video” link next to the person or portion of the meeting. These videos are unlisted, meaning that you must have the link to find them on YouTube.

Video About StartupCU in the CU News

A couple months ago CU News interviewed me about my story and entrepreneurship on campus. I started at the beginning and ended with some of the cool things happening at CU like StartupCU, the nLab, and the GEA. They loved that StartupCU is a place for people wanting to become entrepreneurs and made a video about it. I think the video turned out great.

Big thanks to all those who helped make StartupCU what it is today. A couple people I want to thank specifically are @davidvanderjagt, Daniel Higgs, John Byler, @mathiasfrese@anewmann, Eva Yao, Paul Jerde, and Brad Bernthal. Also, big thanks to all the members who come every month. Their attendance sends a strong message to the community and the nation that CU is the #1 public university for entrepreneurship in the county.

GEA’s Entrepreneurial Lunch & Learn

1 Dec

The Leeds Outdoor Industry Club and the GEA have collaborated to bring Ted Kennedy to Leeds for a Lunch and Learn to discuss his experience as a successful entrepreneur in the Sports/Outdoor Industry.

When: Dec 6th from 12:30pm to 1:00pm
Where: Board Room in the Dean’s Suite at Leeds

Ted was one of original four founders of Ironman North America (Ironman NA) and was VP of Marketing for Ironman NA for more than 6 years. In 2005 Ted left Ironman NA to launch CEO Challenges, and take his sport competition for CEOs concept to many different sports, all over the world. He successfully sold CEO Challenges to Lifetime Fitness (LF) in 2012 and currently serves at the President of CEO Challenges for LF. You can see a brief bio for Ted on the CEO Challenges website.

Ted is a local to Boulder, and has agreed to come to Leeds to share his experiences with Leeds MBA students from 12:00-1:30 on December 6, 2012 in the boardroom in the Dean’s Suite.

If you are at all interested in the Sports/Outdoor Industry and especially triathlon or other events businesses, this is a talk that you won’t want to miss. We are limiting attendance to 20 people, so please RSVP as soon as possible. Once we fill the event we will continue to take waitlist reservations and if demand is great enough, we may look for a larger room.

Please fill out this survey if you’d like to join us to meet and speak with a successful Boulder entrepreneur.

Lunch will be served.

Thursday, December 6th
12:00pm – 1:30pm
