This Week in Entrepreneurship: FINALS WEEK

24 Apr

First of all, good luck in finals. As such, it’ll be a light week as far as events, but there are some good things to look forward to AFTER school.

This week in entrepreneurship

The big deal coming up is BOULDER START-UP WEEK, May 16-20. This is an annual 5-day event that showcases the great entrepreneur culture here in Boulder. Highlights include lunches, discussions, guest speakers, and rooftop parties. Learn more at

Coinciding with Startup Week is Boulder EDU Startup Weekend, May 18th – 20th. Boulder EDU Startup Weekend is a non-profit, community-building event that brings together entrepreneurs of all backgrounds including educators, students, software developers, marketers, designers, and other enthusiasts to pitch ideas, form teams and start companies in just 54 hours. The participants that attend have 60 seconds to make a pitch (optional), the pitches are whittled down to the top ideas, and then teams form around the ideas to come out with several developed companies or projects. Finally, the weekend culminates with demonstrations in front of an audience of judges and potential investors.

This Week in Entrepreneurship

17 Apr

Home stretch! It’s the last week of classes, and most of us are neck-deep in Decision Modeling Projects. If you happen to run into class of 2012 members Lindsey Jensen, Dane McDonald, Jeff Schreier, Mark Wiranowski, or Nick Wyman, give them a hug/high five/handshake/whatever’s appropriate in the moment, because they recently won the National VCIC Championship in Chapel Hill, North Carolina! The whole thing. Second to no one. If they’re sitting at a table in the Atrium and say you can’t sit here, national champions only, you have to respect it. A huge, hearty congratulations from the GEA.

Even though we’re busy there are still some great events this week in entrepreneurship, specifically tonight:

Brad Bernthal and Phil Weiser will moderate a discussion with the entrepreneur and founder of DISH Network. Don’t miss this amazing opportunity.
When: TONIGHT | 6:15 PM
Where: Wolf Law

StartUp CU is a new, cross-campus club designed to bring students of all sorts together who are interested in Entrepreneurship. Nichole Glaros will be leading a small discussion on how to pitch your idea.
When: Wednesday, April 18th | 6:00 PM
Where: Wolf Law, Room 205

Startups will be demoing and fielding questions from the tech community on their products.
When: Thursday, April 19th | 7 pm
